How to Survive Outdoor Summer Weddings

It’s mid-August and you’re waiting for your BFF to walk down the aisle at her beautiful garden wedding Down South. You can’t stop sweating or maybe it’s late September and you’re sitting on the beach in California watching the groomsmen blink from the hot sun beaming down on them in their dashing suits, wishing for the bride to make her entrance desperately. Such are the scenarios of outdoor hot summertime weddings. They are scenic and romantic, but even during the briefest ceremonies, how does one keep from melting? Better yet, how does the couple ensure some little relief for their overheated suffocated guests?

A drink in their hand

As your guests arrive instead of passing out glasses of bubbly, its recommended to have decorative crocks of fruit-infused ice water at the entrance of your outdoor event. Since some fruits like mango, orange and watermelon can help control body temperature, guests can settle down in their seats with a drink that’ll keep them chilled while you say “I do.”

Make sure their asses are cool.

If your mind is set on using a certain kind of wooden or metal wooden chair for your function, spend lavishly on getting fabric cushions so that your guests don’t burn their legs or butts legs when they use the seating arrangement.

Avoid liquid makeup.

Go with makeup that is powder-based and you will avoid making frequent trips to the washroom to fix lipstick and foundation that’s probably dripping off your face. It would be even better if you hire a professional to use airbrush makeup since it’s sweat, water and even tear-proof.

A pair of sunnies will make your guests happy.

Customize sunglasses with your initials or wedding logo on the side for guests to put on while they are outdoors so as to make sure they avoid squinting during the whole wedding ceremony if the sun is blaring. (and probably also on the dance floor). Handing out chic parasols would also be a great idea If you aren’t into sunglasses.

Design a bridal party sweat-survival kit.

Create a kit for your bridal party filled with sweat-fixing items like sunscreen, body wipes, face blotters and even a travel-size deodorant. The groom can make one for the gents too. You can have the kits waiting for them post-wedding in the bridal suite or even have the bathrooms at the reception stocked with these items, since they can’t carry this kit with them down the aisle.

Put your hair back.

A hair tie is girl’s best friend during the summertime. For outdoor moments, whether it’s for the cocktail hour or ceremony hour, have hair ties nearby for the women who want to go with a temporary and quick updo.

Create DIY water misters.

Skip renting giant misters that will make your wedding venue look like it’s a water park and instead create DIY mini water misters that you can put under each chair during the reception. Get mini mister bottles and print labels for each bottle so guests know when and how to use it.
